Things to Check-Out in Crystal Falls, MI
The Iron County Courthouse, built in 1890, is listed on the State and National Register of Historical Places. This castle like structure sits at the center of town and is a beautiful site to see. An Iron County mini-museum is located on the left side of the main entry double doors and is open during normal working hours - Monday thru Friday from 8:00 - 4:00 pm. It's also a good idea to walk up to the second floor and, if court is not in session, look at the magnificent court room. There is also a spectacular view from the windows overlooking the main street.
The Paint River Walk is located on the east side of town at the bottom of the hill on highway M-69 in Lincoln Park. It is handicap accessible and is a popular place for weddings. Along the walkway are benches, barrier free fishing piers, and an interpretive nature trail.
Horse Race Rapids is located on the Paint River and is just a few miles south of Crystal Falls on US Highway 2. It's a little bit of hike and somewhat steep in some areas, but the hike is worth the trip.
The Harbour House Museum is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. It has undergone restoration and has many rooms of local history. It is located on the corner of Crystal Avenue and Fourth Street near downtown Crystal Falls, MI.
Crystal View Golf Course is the local golf course located a half mile east of downtown Crystal Falls. This nine hole course is located on the banks of the Paint River overlooking the City of Crystal Falls. The golf course encompasses about 46.79 acres. The course opens in the spring, as weather permits, and is open 7 days a week with Wednesday set aside for the men and Thursday reserved for the women. Rental carts and clubs available. Runkle Lake Recreation Complex – This campground is owned and operated by the City of Crystal Falls and is open Memorial Day thru Labor Day. The camp consists of 57 (electric, water and sewer hookups available) campsites and offers public rest rooms, showers, an RV dump station, horse shoe pits, tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts, a playground and a swimming beach with a certified lifeguard on duty. Bewabic State Park is located four miles west of Crystal Falls on US Highway 2 on Fortune Lake. This campground has 144 campsites. The park includes modern bathroom facilities, playgrounds, public beach, hiking trail, and a public boat launch.
Crystella Ski Hill offers sledding, snowboarding, and skiing, made possible by a dedicated group of volunteers. The Crystella Recreation Association in the process of working to offer year round activities. Daily ski pass is $8. Season pass is $35.
Paint River Hills Campground - Paint River Hills Campground sits on 36 acres of scenic bluffs along the Paint River near downtown Crystal Falls. There is a half mile, scenic, and unusual hiking trail along the river through cool bluffs, calcite outcroppings, and 140 year old cedars. Guests have easy access to both the State and County ATV trail systems. The campground features a clean, modern, shower building, five insulated sleeping cabins, 10 pull through sites (4 Full Hook Ups), and 18 RV/tent sites.
